Full floor renovation of an old bungalow, resulting in a new, fresh, and light-filled home.
Location: Kipling & Lakeshore
Area: 1000 sq. ft.
Type of Home: Raised Bungalow
Design Feature: Vaulted Ceilings
This 1,000 sq. ft. bungalow, built in the 1930s, was showing its age and in need of significant rejuvenation. While most of the house still featured its original fixtures, the back of the home had been expanded with an addition. The entire main floor was gutted, from floor to ceiling, revealing the beautiful original wooden beams. To preserve the home’s charm and character, the wood-burning fireplace was carefully retained as a focal point.
To keep the project within budget, we maintained the original floor plan while enhancing its functionality. The main floor was opened up to create a spacious, flowing living, dining, and kitchen area. The kitchen was reimagined as a galley-style layout, featuring a movable island that provides extra storage and workspace while also improving circulation and accessibility.
The bathroom was fully updated, and the washer and dryer were relocated to the main floor for greater convenience. New flooring was installed throughout the home, and a custom window was added to bring in more natural light.
Staying true to timeless design principles, we incorporated classic elements to ensure this project would stand the test of time. Key features include a clean white color palette, classic subway tiles, and, as the pièce de résistance, a stunning vaulted ceiling. Additionally, a new window was added to enhance the flow of natural light throughout the space.
